Gardening in Colorado
Gardening in Colorado can be a challenge at times, (short growing season, dry air, cool summer nights, late spring and early fall frosts, clay and alkaline soil). But it can also be a rewarding experience if you are armed with the right knowledge. Growing your own artisanal vegetables can be deeply satisfying. And the right ornamental plants and flowers can turn your yard into a garden.
Many gardening magazines, books and websites are geared for low-elevation growing, in the Eastern U.S. Even Sunset magazine, which is geared for the West, doesn’t give a lot of information about growing in the high, dry and cold mountain-west. It tends to be more focused on the coastal areas.
Most publications do not have good information for growing in our climate or soils. As a Colorado gardener, you have to be careful about what information you rely on. That’s a big part of why I started this blog, to give you good, solid information that will help you be a gardening success in Colorado.
